Antonio Dibennardo

Painter

I was born in Sicily, a beautiful island where, between churches and baroque paintings, I began to pursue that road, even now recognizable in some aspects of my works. In 2013 I earned my Artistic Maturity Diploma in painting from the “T. Campailla” Art High School, from where I learned the fundamentals of the various painting and artistic techniques and their use. After high school I decided to move to and continue my studies in Turin where I was able to fine tune my painting technique and develop the style that characterizes my paintings today.
I create pieces that stand out thanks to the use of light and shadows, together they create a strong contrast that lets me narrate the human figure and its features. Light and shadow are the fundamental expressive mediums: the light creates stark shadows, underlining the dramatic power of the scene and plastically molding the subjects of the paintings, at the same time, the shadows absorb most of the elements, in order to draw the spectator’s attention to the essential elements of the artwork.
I always try to examine the figure both in its beauty and in its imperfections. Nature has to be accepted in its naturalness and narrated in its depths, even in a sometimes extreme contrast of light and shadow. My research, through academic halls, is in constant change, implementing other elements and artistic materials with the objective of bringing a new meaning of figurative art and creating a dialogue with whoever wants to explore the artistic world.
